Volunteer Artist
Silvie started making mosaics in 2007 when she moved to London and started working as a volunteer at Southbank Mosaics. Since then she has specialised in mosaic portraits and memorials and has worked on the studio's William Blake heritage project. Her mosaics are from a very painterly nature influenced by her experience as a fine art painter, particularly skilled in colour arrangement and figure depiction."I am very thankful that I was given the opportunity to explore mosaic as a new artistic medium to express my artistic concerns mainly concerning colour. Mosaic has such a long and skillful tradition that yet I find it surprising that there are only a small number of mosaic practitioners still working. I hope to raise the awareness that mosaic is a very skillful and traditionally grounded practice that can stand firm besides other practices in craft and fine art." Mosaics by Silvie Jacobi
