Karim Galdames
Resident Artist
I have been experimenting and creating mosaic pieces since 1995. Being self- taught, it became my passion and it felt necessary to put this time consuming, very sophisticated concept of art together, exploring different avenues and understanding the changes mosaics can make to ordinary settings.
A major influence on my work has been Antoni Gaudi, from Barcelona, whose decorative motifs, flowing patterns and stylised forms, using ceramics and glass, broke the boundaries of his time.
As an artist I feel it my responsibility to use imagery along with colour, intuition and emotion, to create pieces that describe the world in a different way. Coming from a very colourful upbringing I feel it necessary to put my ideas into practise. I have travelled to Chile, where I was born, to teach and make mosaics in a changing world, and now have returned to establish myself as an artist.
I try to follow my feelings in my pieces and I think it is important to offer a happy and bright presentation of life through my work, each piece being unique, playful and alive.
