I became fascinated by mosaics in my twenties. They were a metaphor for a world of many colours and great beauty. Their durability and brilliance gave them value and the slow progress of making them added authenticity. Along with all the other elements of fine art, mosaics in particular offer rhythm, movement, humour and serenity.

I enjoy making mosaics and living on the Southbank. I would like to see this area civilised and decorated, made stronger and yet more gentle, where people's relationships with each other are reflected by their enjoyment and pride in their surroundings.
